The Flag of Spain, officially adopted on December 19, 1981, is composed of three horizontal bands, two red ones on the top and bottom and a middle band of yellow (double width) with the national coat of arms on the left. The coat of arms includes the royal seal with the Pillars of Hercules on each side representing Gibraltar and Ceuta. The Coat of Arms of Spain is composed of six other coats of arms.
The gold castle symbolizes Castile, the red lion symbolizes León, the pomegranate flower of Granada, the red and yellow stripes of Aragon, the golden chains of Navarre and the “fleur-de-lis” of the House or Bourbon. Over the Pillars there is a Royal Crown on the right and an Imperial Crown on the left. For more info on traveling to Spain read Spain Travel |
