Niemeyer Cultural Centre in Aviles

The Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre located in Avilés (Austurias, Spain), is now opened to the public.  Known as “El Niemeyer”, it was designed by the world-famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.  His relationship began with the Principality of Asturias after he won the “Prince of Asturias Award for Art” in 1989.  Besides being a cultural centre of international significance, it has an important environmental element as well.  It is part of an urban regeneration process that will change the whole waterfront of the industrial area of Avilés.  It is hoped that it will serve as an engine for economic growth and urban regeneration just as the Guggenheim did for Bilbao. This is something everyone should put on their to-see list.

The new airport terminal in Alicante will open at the end of March just in time for the Easter and summer holidays.  Staff from the British Consulate recently took the time to visit the new installations and was impressed by the size and design of the new terminal.  They were very pleased with all the attention that AENA has paid to the safety and security of the passengers both in the design of the new building as well as in the parking area.

Smoking in Spain is history

We are happy to announce that tourist no longer have to worry about very smokey restaurants or cafes in Spain. Starting January 1st 2011, the Government of Spain has passed a new Non Smoking law that prohibits smoking in public places. This includes restaurants, cafes, airports, trains, etc. The fines announced by the government make us think that most places will abide by the new law.
