Barcelona is a fascinating city with a long and rich history that you'll definitely want to include it on your itinerary in Spain. Whether you are interested in seeing the most famous works of Antoni Gaudi (especially the cathedral he designed called the Sagrada Familia), or want to see the Olympic Village where the 1992 Olympic Games were held, or see the Old Port,

the beaches, or try the incredible food and wine of the region, or even take a day trip up to the Montserrat Mountain and Monastery,  Barcelona has something for everyone. One good way to see the major highlights of the city is a tour called Barcelona Highlights Tour.

Sagrada Familia Barcelona
 Parque Guell

On this tour you'll have a chance to see all the best sites.  This tour leaves from the Plaza Catalunya opposite the Tourist Office every day at 9:00 am all year around except Dec. 25th, 26th and Jan. 1st and 6th.  You'll be taken by an English-speaking, officially licensed guides who are experts on Barcelona.  The tour starts with an overview of Gaudi on the Passeig de Gracia, an elegant avenue with luxury shops, banks and the stock exchange.  You'll see modernist architecture, Gaudi tile pavement and two of Gaudi's houses.  From there you will be taken to Park Güell, a residential suburb meticulously planned by Gaudí with intertwining rodas, fountains, a market place,a square, gardens and lodges. After visiting Park Güell you'll head to the cathedral "Sagrada Familia", Gaudi's most famous work which synthesizes his overall conception of architecture. This is truly a fascinating and extraordinary work of art.  After Gaudi it's time to visit Montjuic and go on a general panoramic tour of the city.  Montjuic was an industrial area of Barcelona that was completely transformed for the 1992 Olympic Games.  It is right on the waterfront and and has become an attractive residential area.  The next stop is the Old Port and old fisherman's quarter called the "Barceloneta". Some of the other highlights of the panoramic tour are the Columbus Monument, the Gothic Drassaries (a medieval shipyard that now houses the Maritime Museum), the World Trade Center, the Mirador del Alcalde, the Olympic Ring and Poble Espanyol.  We think this tour is a great way to see the best highlights of Barcelona.
