When people think of Spanish wines names like La Rioja or Ribera del Duero jump to mind but there are also other regions in Spain that produce excellent wine.   Most don't realize that Madrid has a wine region all of its own called "Vinos de Madrid".  Even though Madrid's wine history dates back to the 13th century, the "Vinos de Madrid" Domination of Origin dates only to 1990.

When tourists and visitors come to Spain one of the first things they want to do is go out for tapas (small appetizers served when you order a drink) because it is a Spanish tradition known around that world.  Spaniards are a very social people and they love to talk, socialize, be with their friends and neighbors, and, of course, to eat and drink.

One of the best aspects of visiting Spain and eating the great traditional cuisine is getting to accompany the food with incredible Spanish wine.  There are over 2.9 million acres of grapes planted in Spain with some 600 varieties, but approximately 80% of the country's wine production comes from only 20 different kinds of grapes.

Spain is known for its culinary traditions and healthy Mediterranean diet.  Traditional Spanish cuisine, although it varies from region to region, relies on an abundance of locally grown fruits and vegetables, meats, poulty, cured ham, sausages and, of course, incredible seafood.  Olive oil, great wines and cheeses also round out the Spanish diet.
